Pre-Hire Reference Checks

Discussion

Reference checks should be a condition of employment and should be done prior to making an offer of employment. (Note: A reference check is different from a “background check” which may be performed after hiring.) Areas that may be discussed include verification of position, title, salary, dates, job knowledge, work habits, productivity, independent thinking, attendance, and motivation.
