Voluntary Resignations

Discussion

Two weeks is the standard notification from a resigning employee. NPCs may not require notification but may “request” such notification. Official notice should be addressed to the Principal Investigator or the executive director and include the effective date, reason for the resignation, and the signature of the employee. Upon receiving notification of resignation, the executive director should initiate the post employment clearance process.

An NPC may prefer that a resigning employee leave immediately upon giving notice. However, if that occurs the resignation may be viewed as a discharge and the employee may be entitled to unemployment insurance benefits. Be sure to obtain a statement from the employee verifying that the resignation is voluntary.
