NAVREF UPDATES – october 21, 2009

reminder: request for research facility and it examples

Thank you to those of you and your PIs who have responded to my request for assistance identifying problems with VA research facilities and IT security measures.  Some of these are painful to read, and I hope FOVA will be successful in drawing attention to them and securing additional funding for FY 2011 so that the facility problems may be addressed.

Several responses noted that ORD has been reviewing facilities for several years and recommended obtaining a copy of that assessment.  Unfortunately, the resulting report remains in “draft” form and is inaccessible to the public; nor is it subject to FOIA as long as it is a draft.

I have received far more examples of IT problems than facility problems and could use a few more of the latter.   For example, how does inadequate space impact the research program at your facility?  Patient safety or privacy? Is the electrical supply or HVAC inadequate?  Are there water leaks?

I would appreciate additional responses by close of business today, Wednesday, if at all possible.  Thank you again.
