NAVREF UPDATES – April 14,
2010
Encourage Your Legislators
to Attend Capitol Hill Reception
Please take a few minutes to send
a fax or email to your elected representatives
to encourage them to attend the VA Research Week Capitol Hill
reception that will be held on Wednesday, April 21, from 6:00 p.m.
to 8:00 p.m. in Room 628 Dirksen, the Senate Indian Affairs
Committee Hearing Room.
Congressional offices are inundated
with invitations; a fax or email from a constituent is likely to
make the difference in whether a member of Congress or staff member
actually attends an event. Please follow the instructions below to
support the efforts of the Friends of VA Medical Care and Health
Research (FOVA) and Veterans Service Organizations (VSOs) to educate
Congress about the importance and accomplishments of the VA research
program.
A. Identify your three members of
Congress and their contact information:
·
Go to
http://www.congress.org/congressorg/directory/congdir.tt?command=congdir
·
On the upper left, enter your
ZIP code
·
Click on each legislator’s
picture and then “Contact” to obtain their phone and fax numbers
·
Call the legislator’s office
and ask for the name of the staff member responsible for veterans’
issues
B. Edit the following sample
letter as needed and then fax or email it to each legislator’s
office. A fax is likely
to be more effective, but if you prefer, you can ask each staff
member for their personal email address. Do not send emails to the
legislator’s general email box.
Thank you.
Sample fax or email
(Remember to use personal – not VA –
stationery):
