SUNSHINE LAWS

Discussion

Some states have sunshine laws that require nonprofits to open board meetings to anyone who would like to attend. Sunshine laws generally apply to nonprofits that receive or disburse state funds; perform a government function or have a government contract; have government officials on the board; or have a board that is appointed by government officials. Check with an attorney familiar with nonprofit issues and your state regulations to see if your NPC should be concerned about sunshine laws.
