HARASSMENT POLICY

Discussion

A policy on harassment covers forms of harassment other than those of a sexual nature.  Harassment based on age, race, religion, national origin, and mental and physical handicap are controlled by federal and state law. Employees should know that the NPC is committed to a harassment free workplace.  It is often best to distinguish the organization’s sexual harassment separate from its general harassment policy to ensure that anyone looking for a sexual harassment policy will be able to locate it easily.

Sample Policy

The Nonprofit Organization does not condone or excuse harassment of any kind.  Nonprofit Organization policy prohibits employees from discriminating against or harassing their colleagues based on gender, sexual preference, religion, mental or physical impairment, age, race, marital status, creed, color, or national origin.  The Nonprofit Organization will take immediate steps to address complaints of racist or ethnic slurs, or harassment based on age, disability, sexual preference, or any characteristic protected by law.

An employee who believes he or she has been the victim of any kind of harassment should report the incident immediately to his or her supervisor or to the director of human resources or to the Executive Director.  The director of human resources will investigate all such complaints.
