AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT (ADA)
Discussion
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) protects the rights of
people with disabilities. It affects access to employment; state and
local government programs and services; access to places of public
accommodation such as businesses, transportation, and non-profit service
providers; and telecommunications. An organization’s commitment to
complying with ADA and to understanding that it can not discriminate
based on an employee’s disability is generally indicated in its equal
employment opportunity policy. Employees should also be aware that the
NPC will make reasonable accommodations to the known physical or mental
limitations of qualified employees
Registration forms for conferences should contain a statement
indicating the sponsor’s willingness to accommodate persons with
disabilities. Sample statement: Pursuant to the Americans with
Disabilities Act, please contact Nonprofit by Date should
you require specific aids to fully participate in this conference.
