$330 MILLION AVAILABLE FOR TBI AND PTSD RESEARCH
July 5, 2007
TO: NAVREF Members FROM: Barbara West, Executive Director
NPCs are
encouraged to let VA investigators at their facilities know that the
Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP) office of
the US Army Medical Research and Materiel Command has posted a press
release announcing upcoming FY 2007 funding opportunities for
research on traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post-traumatic stress
disorders (PTSD). Please go to
http://cdmrp.army.mil/pubs/press/2007/07ptsdtbipreann.htm for
the press release.
The timeline for submissions will be very compressed so please do
not delay forwarding this notice to potential PIs and posting it as
appropriate. As
noted in the press release, PIs may request timely notification of
CDMRP program announcements by sending an email to:
prequest@constellagroup.com
Background:
In addition to providing $32.5 million for VA research related to
OIF/OEF veterans (see NAVREF update at
http://www.navref.org/advocacy/alert_052507.htm), the war
supplemental bill passed in May (HR 2206 - U.S. Troop
Readiness, Veterans' Care, Katrina Recovery, and Iraq Accountability
Appropriations Act, 2007) provided over $330
million to DOD for research on traumatic brain injury and PTSD.
DOD must obligate
these funds before the end of FY 2007 so the deadline for proposals
is likely to be quite soon. NPCs qualified to administer federal
funds may submit and administer these awards on behalf of VA
investigators.
