TBI/PTSD FUNDING UPDATES – AUGUST 10, 2007

TO:  NAVREF Members
FROM:  Barbara West, Executive Director

1. Conference Call for VA PIs: DOD CDMRP and USAMRAA staff have made themselves available for a conference call in order to respond to VA PI questions regarding the submission process and administration of proposals for the DOD TBI and PTSD Program Announcements. Please let PIs at your facility who are submitting proposals know of this opportunity. This call is being supported by NAVREF – not VA – so please ensure that VA PIs have the following dial up instructions.

Date: Wednesday, August 15
Time: 12:00 noon East Coast time
Dial up: 973-935-2013
Passcode: 586-668 followed by the # sign
In case of difficulty, stay on the line and enter *0

Please don’t confuse this call with the related call for personnel of NPCs submitting proposals on behalf of VA PIs that will be held at 1:00 p.m. East Coast time the same day. NPC personnel may dial in to both calls if they wish. The dial up information is the same for both calls.

2. Please make note of the following USAMRAA/CDMRP determination regarding NPC submissions for the Intramural Program Announcements:

VA PIs at VAMCs with current VA, DOD or other funding for TBI or PTSD research may submit through NPCs proposals responding to the CDMRP TBI/PTSD Intramural Program Announcements in order to accelerate, continue or extend ongoing research programs/projects in TBI and PTSD. NPCs may submit the proposals even if the NPC is not administering the ongoing program/project.

For successful applicants: If the NPC submitting the proposal is already administering a DOD or other government funded program/project in TBI or PTSD research under an agreement with that government agency, the existing agreement will be modified to accommodate the additional funds awarded under the TBI/PTSD intramural program. DOD recommends consulting the government agency that currently administers the award to confirm that they are willing to add funding to accelerate the project. Otherwise, USAMRAA will be required (and is willing) to execute a new agreement with the NPC.

3. Read Program Announcements Carefully. VA PIs should read the extramural and intramural program announcements carefully to ensure that they respond to the appropriate solicitations. Intramural program funds are intended to accelerate, continue or extend ongoing programs/projects. Because the submission processes and documentation for extramural and intramural proposals are different, DOD cannot transfer misdirected proposals.

Please send questions regarding the submission process to the CDMRP eReceipt Help Desk at (301) 682-5507; or via email at help@cdmrp.org
