Reminder:
The deadline for the NAVREF Tagline Contest is tomorrow, July 7. If you
would like to add your entry to the more than 20 received to date,
remember that entries must be received before 5:00 p.m. East Coast time
on Wednesday in order to be eligible for the prize. Details are
provided below.
Create a NAVREF tagline to go along with its new vision, mission and
values statements and you may win an iPad!
Background:
Over the last year, the NAVREF board has been engaged in strategic
planning for NAVREF’s third decade. This culminated in the following
draft updated vision, mission and values statements:
Vision: NAVREF envisions
a nation in which veterans receive the finest care based on cutting edge
research and education.
Mission: [NAVREF’s
mission is] To advance the success of the VA-affiliated research and
education nonprofits.
Values:
The membership, board and staff of NAVREF value:

Transformative research
▫
Partnership in vibrant VA research and education programs
▫
Respectful, collegial and transparent relations and communications with
stakeholders
▫
Integrity in governance and management
▫
Proactive leadership and high quality management
Please review the above drafts and send your feedback to
bwest@navref.org. Your input will be considered before the board
finalizes them during its August 2 board meeting.
Tagline Contest:
To round out its governance framework, the board decided to draw on its
members’ creativity to come up with a NAVREF “tagline” and encourages
all members to submit their ideas. To learn what goes into a good
tagline and how it encapsulates a nonprofit’s core purpose, please go to
http://www.gettingattention.org/nonprofit_tagline_report.html (You
will need to complete a short registration form in order to access the
free report.) Alternatively, Google “tagline” for other resources and
sample taglines.
Note:
When formulating entries, be sure to keep the focus on NAVREF and NPCs.
Tagline Contest Rules:

Board members, officers and
compensated employees of NAVREF member NPCs are eligible to submit
entries and to win the prize.
·
NAVREF staff and board
members may submit taglines for consideration, but are not eligible to
win the prize.
·
NAVREF reserves the right
not to award the prize if the board does not select one of the entries
as the final tagline.
·
To be eligible for
consideration, a Tagline Contest entry must be received in the NAVREF
office before 5:00 p.m. East Coast time on July 7, 2010.
·
Eligible participants must
submit entries by email to
smathew@navref.org. Put “Tagline Contest Entry” in the subject
line.
·
In the body of the email,
provide the name and phone number of the individual submitting the entry
as well as the name of the NPC with which the submitter is associated as
a compensated employee, board member or officer.
·
All entries will be
acknowledged with a “reply” email within three business days. If a
reply is not received within that timeframe, please contact the NAVREF
office as soon as possible, but not later than noon East Coast time on
July 8, 2010.
·
Eligible individuals may
submit more than one entry in the same or separate emails, up to 5
entries per individual.
·
If the winning tagline is
submitted by more than one eligible individual, the first person to
submit the winning tagline will win the prize; the date and time on the
submission email sent to
smathew@navref.org will be used to determine who submitted the
winning tagline first.
·
The winning tagline will be
announced during the NAVREF Annual Membership Meeting on Sunday, October
17.
·
The winner does not have to
be present to be awarded the prize.
The prize for the winning tagline will be an iPad with WiFi capability
and 16GB of memory.
We want our members to have fun with this! The NAVREF board and staff
