NAVREF UPDATES – july 6, 2010

reminder - tagline contest deadline

Reminder:  The deadline for the NAVREF Tagline Contest is tomorrow, July 7.  If you would like to add your entry to the more than 20 received to date, remember that entries must be received before 5:00 p.m. East Coast time on Wednesday in order to be eligible for the prize.  Details are provided below.

Create a NAVREF tagline to go along with its new vision, mission and values statements and you may win an iPad!

Background:  Over the last year, the NAVREF board has been engaged in strategic planning for NAVREF’s third decade.  This culminated in the following draft updated vision, mission and values statements:

Vision:  NAVREF envisions a nation in which veterans receive the finest care based on cutting edge research and education.

Mission:  [NAVREF’s mission is] To advance the success of the VA-affiliated research and education nonprofits.

Values:  The membership, board and staff of NAVREF value:

          Transformative research

Partnership in vibrant VA research and education programs

Respectful, collegial and transparent relations and communications with stakeholders

          Integrity in governance and management

Proactive leadership and high quality management

Please review the above drafts and send your feedback to bwest@navref.org.  Your input will be considered before the board finalizes them during its August 2 board meeting.

Tagline Contest:  To round out its governance framework, the board decided to draw on its members’ creativity to come up with a NAVREF “tagline” and encourages all members to submit their ideas.  To learn what goes into a good tagline and how it encapsulates a nonprofit’s core purpose, please go to http://www.gettingattention.org/nonprofit_tagline_report.html  (You will need to complete a short registration form in order to access the free report.)  Alternatively, Google “tagline” for other resources and sample taglines.

Note:  When formulating entries, be sure to keep the focus on NAVREF and NPCs.
