Principal duties and responsibilities

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for the effective leadership, management and financial health of SFVAFRE, INC..  The Board is looking for the new chief executive to build on its existing strong foundation and capitalize on new growth opportunities and directions.  The chief executive will be expected to embrace SFVAFRE, INC.'s core values and its mission; maintain strong relationships with its affiliates, Principal Investigators and sister institutions; and build on currently successful strategies and programs.  The Board will rely on the chief executive to strengthen SFVAFRE, INC.’s programs and infrastructure; identify opportunities to broaden SFVAFRE, INC.’s funding base; and together with the Board create long-range goals and plans.


Strategic Planning and Leadership: Visionary leader with experience directing an evolving organization to new levels of performance; Demonstrated visioning and strategic planning skills; Ability to lead, influence, and motivate individuals and teams, including staff, the board, and partners; Team builder who has experience in scaling up organizations.

Planning and Organization: Ability to translate the vision and strategy into an operational plan; Demonstrated track record of setting and meeting goals; Strong decision making, organization, planning and implementation skills; Ability to set priorities, analyze and resolve problems.

Operations Personnel Management:  Demonstrated experience attracting, managing, developing, evaluating and retaining staff to meet organizational objectives. Ability to lead, influence and motivate individuals and teams; Skill in holding people accountable and developing their abilities to meet and enhance the organization’s vision, mission and values.

Interpersonal Skills / Communications: Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a respectful, collaborative approach to building alliances to strengthen the organization; Relationship builder who can comfortably connect with varied organizational and external partners.

Position classification Part Time
FLSA Status Exempt.
Relevant Work Experience

Relevant and up-to-date knowledge of research administration. Knowledge of NIH research rules and regulations.  Experience with pharma sponsored clinical trials. Experience working with a Board of Directors in building organizations.


Master’s degree or equivalent experience, such as at least seven years of successful executive level experience in a non-profit or research organization

Salary Range Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
