For those New to the NPCs. Welcome.

Welcome to the VA-affiliated nonprofit research and education corporations (NPCs).  If you are reading this page you must be new a new board member or new executive director of an NPC. 

NPCs are authorized by Congress to serve as a flexible funding mechanism for the conduct of approved research and education activities in support of VA's research and education missions.  An NPC may support only VA research and education.  Therefore, an NPC must be able to justify how its activities support or is related to VA research, an approved education activity or an NPC business purpose.

Each NPC is a state-chartered corporation legally distinct from the Department of Veterans Affairs and is exempt from taxation under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code.  As such, except as required by the law that authorizes the establishment of an NPC, or any regulations or policies prescribed by VA, your NPC is required to comply with federal, state and local laws and regulations applicable to nonprofits generally.
